Artist Statement
‘In my current work, I explore the connection between the inner world and its outward expression. Art serves as a portal to the unseen, revealing the hidden layers of experience. Every story begins in darkness and gradually takes shape in the visible world. The paintings evolve through a process of observation and imagination, weaving together the physical world with the hidden realms of mind, soul, and spirit – a space where both flow seamlessly into one another.

Each painting begins on a textured surface, where I work intuitively, letting my hands move freely across the canvas. Gestural marks and organic forms, line, and dynamic color emerge from memory, impressions, and a deep connection to nature. Like roots extending their tendrils, these elements create a sense of depth. While my work doesn’t directly depict nature, I often draw on metaphors found within it to explore the human experience.
Through this process, I uncover what is quietly germinating at my core. The finished painting is meant to be felt, rather than analyzed intellectually.’

Artist Bio

“Painting is a way for me to interact with my world, both inner and outer, to revel in the mysterious connections, and to share my perspective with you.”

Laurie Barmore-Abstract Painter

Laurie Barmore is an abstract painter working primarily in acrylics. Her work is a combination of external inspiration (nature, poetry, experiences) and her inner life and imagination. She uses movement, bold color, and texture to express her emotions and interpretive ideas.

Laurie was born in New York, but grew up in the coastal mountains of California. She graduated from San Jose State University with a BS in Nursing and the sciences have influenced her art. Her call to the visual arts developed over time and she studied under Sir John Porter with her personal style developing through extensive practice and self- study.

Laurie moved to the Pacific North West five years ago and currently lives and paints in Bremerton, Washington. She shows her work through 1202Contemporary, Collective Visions Gallery, and Art Fairs. You can see her work this summer at the Seattle Art Fair and the Bellevue Art Fair.
