Summer Musical Theater Program Staff
ArtsWest's Summer Musical Theater Program Staff are all experienced local professional artists:
Vanessa Miller (stage director/teacher)
Perhaps best known to ArtsWest as the director of SUNLIGHT and last season’s WELL, Vanessa works year round as a stage director, actor, teacher, and voice talent. She earned her BA cum laude at UCLA School of Theater and continued her studies at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Recent directing credits include SIEGFRIED (Seattle Opera YAP), A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM (Seattle Shakespeare/Wooden O) and the new musicals GREEN GABLES, SACAGAWEA, and FAIRYSTORIES (Village Theatre). With fourteen years of teaching experience, Vanessa specializes in coaching actors and teaching musical theatre, opera, and Shakespeare. She has taught and designed programs for most of the local major theatre companies, including Village Theatre, Seattle Repertory and Intiman, and has designed many residencies for nearby school districts. Upcoming, Vanessa is directing OTHELLO for Seattle Shakespeare/Wooden O and she is co-directing with Steve Tomkins the mainstage production of GREEN GABLES for Village Theatre.
Troy Wageman: As an educator Troy has taught music/dance/acting for many of Seattle's leading theatre education programs including ArtsWest, 5th avenue theatre and VIllage Theatre Troy also teaches muskical theatre master classses at many of Washington's university programs. As a performer he has been seen at ArtsWest, 5th Avenue, Village Theatre, Houston's Theatre Under The Stars, The Ordway Center, American Musical Theatre of San Jose, Couer D' Alene, Lyric Light Opera, Second Stroy and Civic Light Opera. B.A. in Music and Theatre from E.W.U. School of Music and Theatre.
Andrew Leonard: This is Andrew's 5th summer teaching in the summer programs at ArtsWest and he is super excited to be working on "Seussical JR." Last summer he was the musical director the Conservatory Production of "Dark Side of The Moon." He was also the co-music director of both "Alice in Wonderland JR." and "Schoolhouse Rock Live! JR" and an intern for "Cinderella." Aside from teaching, Andrew has performed at ArtsWest in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" (Anthony), "BARE: A Pop Opera" (Jason), "HAIR" (Andrew), and "Cabaret" (Emcee).
