ABOUT MUSICAL THEATER ACADEMY (formerly Musical Theater Adventures Camp)
The ArtsWest Musical Theater Academy is geared towards students 8 – 12 years of age who are serious about spending their summer with like-minded students to learn about the world of musical theater.
This highly structured program follows national and Washington state standards in the arts. Class work is the focus in the ArtsWest program, with daily classes in Dance Technique, Music Theory, Improvisation and Acting taught by professional actors. Homework will be given frequently.
Class work paired with rehearsals for Seussical Jr., makes for an exciting, full summer for any student ready to tread the boards. Dedicated students who fully participate in the program learn how to create relationships and concentrate in a variety of situations, and show a greater sense of personal discipline. In addition to social lessons, students also gain better skills in reading and comprehension, physical awareness and an understanding for what the life in the theater can be like.
The conclusion of the ArtsWest Musical Theater Academy puts the students and their new skills center stage in 6 public performances of Seussical Jr. based on the famous stories by Dr. Seuss.
Please note – students in The Musical Theater Academy are expected to be at every day of class and rehearsal as well as at all performances. A parent promissory note outlining all of the expectations of the student and their families must be signed at the beginning of The Musical Theater
