Wine and Cheese Artist Reception: Thursday, October 9th, 6-9 pm

A dynamic new season at ArtsWest Gallery begins with two sculptors and two oil painters that combine for an imminent sense of what is about to happen.  In Broad Daylight presents Chris Haddad, Lauren Osmolski, Carol Schwennesen, and Barbara Wilson from September 21st – October 18th.

Sculptor Chris Haddad is interested in spaces and forms that are timeless, elemental, and new in his elegant series of ChrisHaddad_Weapons__3_and__4_WEB.jpgweapons and stalks in welded steel with a blackened finish. Each piece has been created with skillful utilization of the tension between organic and mechanical.  Lauren Osmolski forms metal into myth with perched creatures that await your next move.  Her enigmatic forms of concrete and metal adeptly blend Art Nouveau and Northwest Coast Indian Art for a unique style of their own.  Carol Schwennesen is an oil painter interested in showing us a world of ancient artifacts and modern physics via pure enjoyment of abstract painting with color fields that you want to fall into.  Her striking artworks provide bold visions of what lies under the visible surface and the many possibilities that can emerge from a thought.  Barbara Wilson uses oil paint to form dynamic compositions of light that flow and pulse like the reflective Northwest street scenes that she paints.  All artists will be in attendance for the reception on Thursday, October 9th from 6-9pm.

In Broad Daylight was curated specifically to compliment the concurrent stage production at ArtsWest, The Vertical Hour (Sept 10 - Oct 4).

“All of these pieces express a deeply personal passion,” said Gallery Director Nichole DeMent. “And in each of them there is an imminent sense that something is going to happen, something is going to change. These are very much the themes of the play as well.”
